Avoid The Issues Associated With Flying Your Pet
Flying a pet can be logistically difficult, restrictive, subject to delays and cancellations, lack supervision/care of your pet, and in the case of brachycephalic and large breeds, unavailable.
Logistics: Airlines are limited in the number of pets they will transport and often the choice of airports is limited by the size of plane required to transport your pet. Because only the larger airports generally facilitate pet travel, often a 2-4-hour drive to and from the airport is required at both ends of the trip. A pet traveling from coast to coast can potentially be confined to a crate for 12+ hours when 2-hour board drop off, flight, and allowed pickup time is factored in. Connecting flights require no less than 1 hour between flights, making it difficult to schedule a flight that works for shipper and receiver. Flying tends to be far more stressful unless they are in cabin with their owner.
Delays/Cancellations: With airlines trying to keep costs down and planes fully booked, delays are on the rise. A pet missing a connecting flight often requires the pet stay overnight at an airport facility until another flight can be secured.
Supervision: Unless a pet is flying in cabin with their owner, pets are shipped as Cargo. At no time is supervision/care provided to your pet. This translates to no potty breaks, no meals, and, during flights, no water. At no time can your pet’s crate be opened until the pet is picked up by the receiver.
